We absolutly love taking a drive to these two hidden Montana gems. Leaving the RV Campground and heading towards these destination is a great way to  see some beautiful country and gives you a chance to see some wildlife in the valleys and meadows that follow this route. Georgetown Lake, is ideal for fishing and boating and the historic charm of Philipsburg, a hub of mining history and Victorian architecture, make this trip very memorable.

A Scenic Stop in Philipsburg & the Drive to Georgetown Lake

Your adventure starts in Philipsburg, Montana, a town that feels like stepping back in time. Once a booming silver mining hub, Philipsburg has carefully preserved its past, with beautifully restored Victorian buildings, local shops, and cozy cafés lining its charming downtown.

One of the town’s most popular attractions? Sapphire mining. Stop by one of the mining shops, grab a bucket of gravel, and try your luck at finding your own Montana sapphires—a fun and unique keepsake from your trip. But that’s just the beginning. No visit to Philipsburg is complete without a stop at the famous candy shop, where shelves are packed with homemade fudge, saltwater taffy, and more sweet treats than you can imagine.

If you’re looking to kick back and soak in the small-town atmosphere, the local brewery is the perfect spot to grab a cold pint of Montana craft beer. And don’t forget to browse the boutiques and gift shops, where you’ll find everything from handmade jewelry to western-style gear and Montana-made goods. Once you’ve explored town, it’s time to hit the road toward Georgetown Lake. The drive up Flint Creek Pass is nothing short of spectacular, with rolling hills giving way to towering pines and sweeping mountain views. Along the way, keep an eye out for the “Heart in the Mountain“, a naturally eroded rock formation shaped like a perfect heart—one of those cool little roadside surprises you won’t want to miss.

Georgetown Lake: A Scenic Outdoor Paradise

Just a short drive from Philipsburg, Georgetown Lake is one of Montana’s most picturesque high-mountain lakes, offering expansive views, peaceful waters, and an unforgettable scenic drive. Nestled in the Pintler Mountains, the lake is surrounded by towering pines, wide-open meadows, and rugged peaks, making every turn in the road a postcard-worthy moment.

Taking the drive around the lake is the perfect way to experience it all. The road winds through a mix of dense forest and open shoreline, with plenty of spots to pull over, take photos, or just breathe in the fresh mountain air. And if you keep an eye out, you’re almost guaranteed to see some of the wildlife that call this area home. Bald eagles often soar overhead, scanning the water for fish, while deer, elk, and even moose are commonly spotted along the tree line. If you’re especially lucky (and at a safe distance), you might even catch a glimpse of a black bear making its way through the woods.
