Welcome

Thanks for stopping by.

Lost Moose Meadows is our family campground. We live here, work here and still handle much of the day to day ourselves.

Whether you talk with us or one of our camp hosts, we’ll give you a straight answer and help however we can. Need to know which site fits your rig, where to ride or where we’ve been seeing elk? Just ask.

How it started

An idea we talked about for years

Long before there was a campground, we were living in Nevada, working regular jobs and raising our two boys.

We camped often, and we always found ourselves wishing for more space. We wanted real room between sites, a place to sit outside and enjoy the view, and not feel like we were sharing our campsite with the RV next door.

Once the boys were grown, we left the desk jobs and moved to Montana. Lincoln gave us the mountains, rivers, wildlife and public land we wanted to be around, and it didn’t take long for it to feel like home.

Building the park

We built it ourselves, from the ground up.

When we started, there was nothing on our 30 acres but sagebrush. No roads, no water or sewer lines, no power. We left our desk jobs, and for the next 15 months, building a campground was our full time job.

We did nearly all of the work ourselves. We laid out the two loops, built the roads and spread the gravel, and trenched and buried more than three miles of pipe. We put in the lift station and the wastewater system that serve every site, then built the office and the shower house.

Every decision came back to space. We had room for far more sites, but we used only about 15 of our 30 acres and stopped at 40: 17 pull-throughs up to 115 feet and 23 back-ins, with nearly 100 feet between many neighbors.

Building it ourselves means we know every inch of the place. We know where every line runs and how every site was built, so when something needs attention, we know exactly how to take care of it.

We live here too, so we’re still the ones taking care of it every day.
